Despite the wet weather, we are getting Mated Queens appearing in our Nucs and now the weather has turned good this week, they have been busy gathering Nectar and building up in size. Its amazing the difference a little bit of Sun makes….
Well, despite the bad weather, we have Queens mated and ready. If you have placed an order for Queens, expect an email shortly. We should also be having a steady stream of Queens now until the end of the season.
We have sold out of all nucs. If you still require bees, keep an eye on the website as there may be some available in June. Otherwise, we will start taking pre-orders for 2013 in September onwards. Queens are still available
Well, most of the orders for the Local nucs have been completed. Hopefully it will be a good season for everyone.
Now we can focus on the next batch of nucs, the New Zealand ones. We are still busy painting and preparing the nuc boxes ready for the arrival. with lots to do, we are quickly running out of time, but that often happens in Springtime for beekeepers.
Painting Nucs ready for the New Zealand
We’ve been able to do proper inspections on the Nucs now we have had good weather. They should be ready to go from the 26th March onwards. Please expect an email very shortly to arrange a collection day.
It was a warm sunny day yesterday, so we took advantage of it and looked inside some of the overwintered nucs. From the ones we checked, they are looking really good, nice and strong, with plenty of pollen coming in. We need to perform full checks on them all which we are hoping to do over the next few weeks, but then we can arrange for collections/delivery of your bees. Currently we are looking at week beginning 26th March onwards.
Some of our Poly Nuc hives, ready for use. For the past few months we’ve been preparing for the New Zealand nucs. thousands of new frames have been made, hundreds of nuc hives have been painted and prepared. Its exciting times here, we’ve only got 3 or 4 more weeks until its all systems go. We still have lots to do and its amazing how quickly the beekeeping season seems to come around.
We are now taking pre-orders for Buckfast Queens. They are due beginning of May, depending on the season. We also have a supply of AMM Queens. These are as near native as we can find. They will fly in colder temperatures and can overwinter on less stores. Only Limited stocks of these available.
Been checking on the bees this week and a lot of the fondant that we gave them to see them through the Winter has already been eaten. Not only that, there seems to be a large number of bees still in the hive. This mild weather has meant the Queen is still laying strong.
We are now taking pre-orders for stocks of bees, full colonies and Queens. All will be available April/May, but regular updates as we get closer to the time will show up here.
